Rupert Evensong is an ordinary gay man. He is a poetical Christian. The ground-breaking writings of the late Bishop John Shelby Spong continue to nourish and inspire.
If Rupert had lived in a previous epoch he may well have taken the cloth. His rigorous schooling, however, exposed him to a virulent strain of the Protestant work ethic. Consequently, he has splashed about enjoyably in a secular career-pond.
Despite the notion that we are all God’s creatures, many Christian denominations still continue to treat LGBTQIA+ people unequally or reject them outright. In response, Rupert felt compelled to write this novella The True Myth of Gay Jesus. He hopes that it contributes, in its own small way, to ringing in the changes that will end the scourge of Christian homophobia.
